2. Why would God fill the oceans with water we can’t drink?

If this world was designed for us, why would the designer give us bodies that require fresh drinking water… and then cover 70% of the Earth with poisonous water?  Does He not desire for his creations to survive?

Raft in OceanIt’s difficult to imagine a benevolent God who says, “Let us cover the Earth with a kind of water that human bodies cannot metabolize. Let us then make it so that it will not quench their thirst and they will desire more.  Then, they will go crazy, their kidneys will shut down, and they will die.” “Or,” says Jesus, “we could use fresh water!” “Oh no,” says God, “what fun would that be?”

Why couldn’t God just fill the oceans with fresh water? Water that would be safe for us, and his other creations to drink? Or at least give us kidneys that could pass high levels of salt, as He apparently did with most ocean-dwelling mammals. Are the ocean-dwelling mammals more precious to Him?

How many humans and animals have died from droughts because of this undrinkable water? Or have been unable to grow crops because this water was poison to plants? When people die due to lack of water, doesn’t this just defeat God’s plan to save them?

Irrelevant – because there is plenty of fresh water, right? (At least for now….we’re busy trashing the provision…but that’s another story.) Walk over to your tap and turn on the water – best in the world I imagine – you’re not lacking or dying – you’re blessed.
    Just another perspective.

    • Either you’re a dummy or selfish or maybe just both. Just because it is irrelevant to you personally doesn’t make the topic irrelevant. The topic of fresh water is quite relevant for at least millions of people on this earth. Do the research and at least care enough about the plight of your fellow human beings even if you’re not out helping to build those taps for other people to get clean fresh water.

wow , you are such an ignorant idiot . have you ever heard of Africa ?

      • Judy Curbow says:

It is good to know that you think I’m an ignorant idiot – and I assure you – I am not. Obviously you feel free to call someone names as you hide behind a computer screen – which I find pathetic. Perhaps if we were conversing face-to-face you wouldn’t be quite so rude. I normally don’t respond to posts such as this; however, I do want to clarify my original post. Unfortunately, much of what is written on blog threads is lost in the typed word. Basically, I cannot prove to you that there is a God; nor can you prove to me that there is not a God. I know Him because of what he has done in my life – and I know him through his creation, the manuscript evidence, the archeology and the fulfilled prophesy. I no longer find it necessary to convert you to my way of thinking – it’s the pearls before swine thing. You will know the truth one day. Regarding the whole Africa – water shortage thread – the point I was TRYING to make is that every person on this blog thread can walk over to the faucet and turn it on. Am I right?? I was NOT implying that many third world countries have a problem with access to safe and clean water. What I AM saying is that many unbelievers use these type questions as a smoke screen. Interestingly, I did some quick research and found that many of the places where people are actually dying of thirst do not even border the ocean – rather they are dying in areas of drought. So, to those seekers (and even unbelievers) I’m just asking that you don’t allow these type of questions to become an excuse to not examine the things of God. And lastly, I’m wondering – how many of you donate to assist people in these drought areas? Ever been on a mission trip? I’m done. Thanks for your time.

        • Sorry about that Judy, people do tend to be more rude on the internet than they are in person. That said, it’s equally elitist of believers to look down on unbelievers and call them “swine.” 😦

But I wanted to comment on your point that “I cannot prove to you that there is a God; nor can you prove to me that there is not a God.” To this, most unbelievers would argue that the burden of evidence is on those who hold a belief to prove their claim, because there is an endless list of things that can be thought up that can never be proven.

You say you know God exists because 1) of what he has done in your life, 2) creation, 3) the manuscript evidence, 4) archaeology, and 5) fulfilled prophesy.

You’re certainly welcome to believe that these evidences add up to proof of God, but I would beg to differ.

          1) Personal experiences, unless you can demonstrate that you have some spiritual power, are not evidence that the rest of us can use to believe. Many people of many different religions have experiences that convince them their religion is true.

          2) Exactly what part of creation proves to you that there is a God? There are some things that appear designed (because nature “thinks” much like we do, through a process of trial and error) but there are also many things that appear poorly designed (such as oceans filled with saltwater, or aquatic mammals and reptiles that can’t breathe underwater) because nature has no foresight and can’t see the big picture.

          3) I’m assuming you mean the Bible, but you’ll have to be more specific about which part is evidence that God exists.

          4) Archaeology – as far as I’m aware, while archaeology has proven certain things about the Bible, it has discredited things like the 6 day creation and the global flood. There is no archaeological evidence that can prove God exists and has performed a miracle.

          5) Prophecy is a big one for most believers, but I don’t think they realize how bad prophecies are at indicating truth. (There’s a reason we don’t invite psychics into the courtroom to help us sort out fact from fiction. And self-proclaimed prophets like Pat Robertson have a horrible track record.) I talk at length about prophecy under question #32, and (at this point in time) I have also explored a couple popular claims of Biblical prophecy under #37 and #43.

But in short, it’s not a smoke screen, and I don’t think you’re an idiot, any more than I would consider myself an idiot for when I believed. The evidence is what matters, and believers are welcome to gather every Sunday and tell each other what great evidence they have for what they believe, the rest of the world will be waiting for you when you start to question the truth of that evidence.

Thanks for following up and explaining your post! 🙂

I respect your opinion, and thanks for having the common sense not to call someone a crude name just for their beliefs. I can understand your points.

          • Mark Ketchum says:

“To this, most unbelievers would argue that the burden of evidence is on those who hold a belief to prove their claim”

This is incorrect, unless the believer is trying to prove to the unbeliever of God’s existence… which most of us are not. The truth is, you will not believe in God unless God changes your heart and gives you the gift of faith. We are just stating fact and not trying to prove anything to you. So the burden of proof is not on us, it is on you… you who wants to convince us of God’s non-existence… not on us who know you won’t believe unless God wants you to.

            • HI Mark,

I think the only reason the idea came about that God is invisible and demands your faith, is not because God actually exists and wants people to believe without evidence, but because he doesn’t exist and the only way to defend his “invisibleness” is through claims that can never be falsified.

This is also why most non-believers also insist that if the burden of evidence cannot be met, that the claim AT LEAST be falsifiable.

Otherwise, anything can be claimed if it can never be disproved.

You could’ve just as easily argued:

“This is incorrect, unless the believer is trying to prove to the unbeliever of Zeus’s existence… which most of us are not. The truth is, you will not believe in Zeus unless Zeus changes your heart and gives you the gift of faith. We are just stating fact and not trying to prove anything to you. So the burden of proof is not on us, it is on you… you who wants to convince us of Zeus’s non-existence… not on us who know you won’t believe unless Zeus wants you to.”

As far as the ocean; How do we know that GOD did not make these oceans with fresh water in the 1st place & then because of man’s sin, death & decay could have contaminated our oceans? Or better yet.. Maybe when the world became flooded the fresh ocean water became polluted.

you ask the question at the beginning of this point ” Does He (God) not desire for his creations to survive?” Obviously the answer must be yes, since the human race has indeed survived for over 6000 years. As to the oceans and salt water. We must remember that salt and also the various value minerals in the ocean are also vital to the existence of live.

    • KissyFish says:

Amen, sister. People can be so wasteful of the good natural resources and they pollute the oceans and the Earth. I agree 100%.

God probably put less fresh water so that people would well-respect the limited drinking water available and not take it non-seriously.

    • Anonymous says:

You and I may have enough fresh water, but how about those people in countries where drinking water is scarce? I think it’s absurd to think there can be a benevolent invisible being that cares a damn about us when there’s so much wrong with this world.

  2. zqtx says:

“Walk over to your tap…” wow. Just ignore that all of that plumbing it took to make that possible is only recent history and the fact that fresh water makes up only 3% of the water on the planet. Nice perspective.

  3. Judy, don’t you realize that “walk over to your tap” is a meaningless command for billions of humans?

  4. Antonio says:

Judy is thinking only of herself. The rest of human kind had to dig wells to get water laden with bacteria, parasites, and hard minerals. Walk over your tap and tap your head with it.

    • KissyFish says:

At least they still get water. Be thankful for what you have. And don’t they boil the water to get rid of the bacteria and impurities?

Kissyfish, God kinda forgot to tell humanity about the Germ Theory of disease… Aside from the salt water issue, knowing about proper sanitation and water purification could’ve saved countless people from miserable illness and death. It took science to discover germs and how to handle them.

  7. Jonathan says:

… Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” John 7:37-38

I could just as easily argue why evolution (or some other natural process) would evolve us to life where we cannot drink saltwater. It seems like natural selection would prefer “saltwater drinkers” since it’s more abundant than freshwater. The simple answer to either of our arguments is that there IS enough freshwater to support human life, but I don’t really think that is the crux of your question. I think your argument can be generalized to “Why would a loving God not meet our physical needs?” Could it be that our spiritual needs supersede our physical needs?

(Begin Bible Verse – John 6:26-40)
26 Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal.” 28 Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” 30 So they said to Him, “What then do You do for a sign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform? 31 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’” 32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. 33 For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” 34 Then they said to Him, “Lord, always give us this bread.”

35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe. 37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.”
    (End Bible Verse)

What’s the context of this passage? Jesus had just recently, miraculously, fed 5000 people with one boy’s lunch.(See John 6:1-14) So, crowds of people were flocking to him to get some more free food, and see some more miracles, as if he were a traveling magician or something. They were less interested in his spiritual message. In verse 27 Jesus makes it clear that they were focusing on physical food and physical well-being, but he’s interested in their eternal well-being. What Jesus offers in the form of salvation is not a physical fullness, but eternal spiritual life, as stated in verse 40, of whom the Jesus is the savior, as stated in verse 35. Salvation is not absence of thirst or hunger, as you indicated above.

Furthermore, water’s importance on Earth is (by far) not limited to consumption. For example, the global oceans are necessary to equalize and moderate Earth’s temperature. The relationship between global climate and ocean currents is well documented. Also, evaporation (a critical part of the water cycle) supplies the atmosphere with water vapor (clouds) that reflect thermal energy from the sun, also critical for global temperature regulation. [Much and more about the amazing properties of water, and why they are critical to supporting life can be found here: http://www.reasons.org/articles/water-designed-for-life-part-1-of-7 Note, it’s a 7-part series and I challenge you to read it all.]

I wish I had more time to more thoroughly address this and other of your questions too. I am less interested in changing your mind, than I am to show that believers can have reason behind their beliefs in God. [www.reasons.org is a great resource] As time permits I might throw in another post, but like everybody knows sometimes the busyness of life gets in the way of good intentions.

We are a tiny planet in an extremely vast and extremely violent universe. Our own planet is extremely violent towards us as well. Taking these small points into account is a huge indication of how insignificant we are. This universe was not created for us. Get over yourself.

    • KissyFish says:

It could be worse, always keep that in mind. If it wasn’t for the dinosaurs becoming extinct, oh boy, there’d be no chance for us. And Sharknados, and more Jasons and Myers running around.

  9. jerell says:

where does this 70% of water come from? how did it fill earth abundantly? humans been around for what over 200,000yrs, and with all this salt water surrounding us why haven’t we evolve the correct lungs to be able to drink such water?

    • Hi Jerell. Hydrogen, Helium, and Oxygen are the three most abundant substances in the universe. Many comets are made from ice, and other planets and moons would also have water if they weren’t too hot or too cold.

But you do raise a fair question. Why didn’t we evolve to drink saltwater? Or if we used to be able to filter out the salt, why can’t we now?

My hunch would be that once animals left the ocean and started living inland on fresh water, we lost the ability to filter out high levels of salt. This is similar to how most primates lost the ability to make Vitamin C. We started eating fruit with Vitamin C in it, so when this gene broke, our bodies didn’t care and life went on. Likewise, when one of our ancestors lost the ability to ingest salt water, their body didn’t care.

      • Anonymous says:

Yes I know what water consist of but that’s not the question I ask. I asked where did all of earths water both salt and spring water come from how did it get here? Not using any of the comets/ice theories I want real provable facts whether through science or not. I see alot of your questions/answers about god or the bible are retaining to or rebuked by scientific evidence. My question to you is that is everything you do or think of scientifically proven and tested and if not than what do you base everything you say think and do of. My point is just because it can’t be scientifically proven doesn’t mean that its
not true or false about the bible or god. Remember this is a god his thoughts are infinitely times higher than humans alot of stuff in the bible doesn’t seem to make sense but to god he sees things different because he knows but we don’t know we think n study and observe.

        • Are you asking where water came from… originally? I can’t answer that, no more than you can answer where god would’ve come from, originally. I can only speculate that the elements always were, in some form or another, and you can only speculate that god has always existed. But as for how these elements got here, gravity.

But we could also ask, “How do we ‘know’ that God has thoughts that are infinitely times higher than humans?” Was he always all-knowing? If he always knew everything, how is that even possible? I would also like provable facts as well, please.

          • jerell says:

1)Are you asking where water came from… originally? yes
2)”I can’t answer that, no more than you can answer where god would’ve come from, originally.” True but if god said that he has always existed who are we to say he didn’t or had to come from some place originally.
3)” I can only speculate that the elements always were, in some form or another, and you can only speculate that god has always existed”. yes but your speculating on something you don’t know its origins of. you could test the elements of water but don’t know where it came from originally? but if a believer in a creator says god did it you want scientific proof of where this god is? water is here and someone with infinite amount of intelligence put it here.
4)”But as for how these elements got here, gravity.” it seems like this gravity knows exactly how to put all life elements together all by itself crazy.
5)”But we could also ask, “How do we ‘know’ that God has thoughts that are infinitely times higher than humans?” Was he always all-knowing? If he always knew everything, how is that even possible? I would also like provable facts as well, please” if god told you that he was this all knowing all powerful being how can you refute this? are you going to ask god to show me scientific proof? believers only know what our creator word says about his all loving power. and if god does exist ( which with all my heart i believe he does) how are you going to ask him anything and expect him not to know the answers to your silly questions? its obvious that this creator is beyond our comprehension.. to me not 1 person ever in the history of mankind either from the past or the future will ever possess enough knowledge to know about the universe let alone earth.
let me ask you this.. you say you want proof of god then you’ll have to search for him heres a couple of verses if your not scared: 1 Chronicles 28:9
“And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. Acts 17:26-28
From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. Hebrews 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. here is your proof of his existence yes it is not how YOU want to find out if god exist or not but if you want god you’ll do the following.

            • Anonymous says:

You have to be kidding. You believe in a book because it says God wrote and it and since the book says it, it must be true? “Who wrote(inspired) the Bible?-God, How do you know?-The Bible says so” any person looking at it from an unbiased perspective would understand it. “God wrote(inspired) the Bible, we know because the Bible said so and it must be true because God wrote(inspired)it” Justification in a circular form without any other evidence being added and that is the “rationalization” christians give to their beliefs. Elements in Earth’s early atmosphere through chemical reactions created water and the other compounds necessary for life. Water was of course in a gaseous state until Earth cooled down after it’s formation enough for water to convert into a liquid state. As to the origins of the elements we don’t know, that is what we(humanity) is still trying to find out but with tangible measurable results instead of just attributing their existence to an invisible entity. An example, If I write a book claiming unicorns exist and list a unicorn sighting as “evidence” no one will believe it, why? Because there is absolutely NO proof of unicorns and just because a book says they exist because one “inspired” it doesn’t mean it’s true. No one is asking you to renounce to your beliefs just to question them in an objective, unbiased perspective, trying to come up with a rational explanation as all human beings should. Regarding the remarks you made earlier, on number 2 has anyone ever heard God saying he is an all-powerful, omnipresent creator? All we have is what a book written millenniums ago says, is there any evidence that whoever wrote it had any contact whatsoever with a superior being? NO then why should we trust him(the author) blindly? On number 3 you are questioning the origin of a TANGIBLE thing. Scientists ARE trying to understand completely how water came to be, whereas for God? No one knows and will never know how in hell would he have just appeared? Out of nowhere? Why? Because believers prefer to just say God knows, God decides, God here, God there and they don’t question things just blindly believe in something because they are either too lazy, too blind or too stupid to question and find a reasonable explanation. On number 4, it didn’t all just happen in a second! The universe, Earth, life all took billions of years to form and mold into their present state. Through trial and error is how we came to be after billions of years of “experiments” by nature. Earth is approximately 4.5 billion years old and modern humans are around 200,000 years old, yeah it looks like gravity just wound up everything tightly and life sprung as if by magic! “if god told you that he was this all knowing all powerful being how can you refute this? are you going to ask god to show me scientific proof? ” Have you talked to him? Has he told you that he is an all knowing, all powerful being? Of course not. You believe because of what you have read and what you were raised with, not because God talked to you and you were just unable to refute his facts. You believe solely based on a book you don’t even know who wrote or did God himself talk to you? Because if that’s so please share! Btw you praise so much the “good” verses in the Bible but make no mention to the Bible’s praise and encouragement of Misogyny, Slavery, Hate, Murder among other things, I am not making this up and you have read the Bible thoroughly as to defend it completely you will know what I am talking about if not just research and be amazed on what the “sacred scriptures” command.

              • Judy Curbow says:

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” I must ask – for those of you who are Atheists – If you don’t believe there is a God……why do you spend so much of your time, effort and energy trying to disprove him? You can prove he does not exist no more than I can prove to you that he does. Additionally, the person In the post above stated all kinds of things that he/she could not prove as well (i.e. “It didn’t happen in a second; the Earth took billions of years to form; Earth is 4.5 billion years old; modern humans are around 200,000 years old). Prove that – scientists still struggle with this and cannot agree. The last paragraph regarding the “sacred scriptures” speaks to your understanding of them. I wonder how much, in what context and with whom you have studied the scriptures. Does “New Covenant” mean anything to you? I challenge you to gather 40 of your friends and family. Assign them all a writing assignment – some history; some poetry; some letters, some prophesy, etc., etc. Then gather the 40 pieces of writing and you’d have one big hot mess on your hands. The Bible contains 66 books – was written by 40 authors over a span of about 1500 years. There is a central theme – and that is the salvation of man – through Jesus Christ. I cannot discount the prophesies made in scripture that have already come to pass. To me this is the strongest evidence. So perhaps the sentence could just as easily read: Justification in a circular form without any other evidence being added and that is the “rationalization” Atheists give to their beliefs. God bless you all this beautiful Sunday morning.

you seem to put a lot of faith in science which doesn’t even know 1% of information of life! what is science is it perfect is it in perfect harmony with this universe or is it man made? can it not be manipulated? can proof cannot be manipulate? science is nothing without arts, language, culture and history and especially people. science is so corrupted and evil and manipulative that men cant look in the mirror and tell the difference between a themselves and ape! science is only proof of observation. yeah science can tell what the elements of water is but cant create them from scratch or even know where the source is. yeah science knows how weather works but cant control its sources and also unable to stop them but through only temporary shelter. yeah science knows the elements of the human body but cant create one. yeah science knows the elements of human life but cant create or stop death ever? men don’t and will never posses the infinite and unimaginable knowledge of what this universe possesses. i believe in what genesis says that a all powerful creator words spoke this universe into existence. and you believe in that this particle (singularity) existed and just exploded or expanded everything into existence. even if science finds this particle it will be unable to test it you cant get information from it because particles don’t talk they lack knowledge,, language, interpretation, and most of all a mind or will power to control the elements that get out of reach and this is what you put your proof in because science says that its evidence? your crazy! my god talks loves and creates life and yes cause the bible says so! yes theres killings in the bible that god did but since you so ignorantly mis read the bible you would understand that god had reason behind his actions he did what he had to do or say. and since his thoughts are higher than ours then somethings he does we’ll never understand. science shouldn’t just be about science it should be about everything and everything should be about science. Don’t be 1 of those atheist who so blindly believes in science and evolution that he also cant tell the difference between life with purpose and life without purpose when he looks in the mirror since they don’t believe that life has purpose… that’s equivalent to saying water has no purpose in life and its meaningless. open your eyes man life is bigger than science!

I don’t know how God made the Universe, but time does not exist. Infinity is a never ending loop and eventually God realized his existence and then set off to make everything, however way he did. God wouldn’t tell you who he was because you wouldn’t be saying all this if he was real, I think not. You can have your own opinion but just love the world and other people, contribute to its growth, and respect other people’s beliefs, regardless if you agree or not. Plus the earth isn’t a permanent location, Misogyny, Slavery, Hate, Murder among other things, isn’t forever, and even an athiest mind would agree that it doesn’t last forever. However, a short summary. We don’t know what came before the big bang. Unlike religion, however, science is a quest to learn more and more, and is therefore just fine admitting that there are things we do not know.

After the big bang, however, there was a lot of energy. Some of that energy formed elementary particles, which, eventually combined into atoms, mostly hydrogen. Large clusters of hydrogen were pulled together by gravity, causing fusion. Eventually they burned out and went supernova, flinging out large amounts of lighter elements (everything lighter than iron gives off energy when it fuses, so it is easy to form in stars, everything heavier absorbs energy, so it can form, but it is less common). Among those lighter elements are Oxygen and Hydrogen. Some of that oxygen and hydrogen combined into water, and floated around in icy chunks until it clumped together in the formation of a new solar system, where we now live.

Every single step of that has been shown to either be possible, probable, or happening right now where we can observe it (in the case of some of the earlier steps, the observations take advantage of the speed of light to effectively look back in time). At the very least, it produces a mathematical model that is consistent with the observable universe around us.

You have a book. Written by primitive desert nomads. That disagrees with every other “holy” text written by every other civilization on earth. That is also inconsistent with observations you can make yourself (the earth is not flat, it does not have corners or foundations, Pi is not 3, etc).

I’m sorry that I can’t give you any provable facts. But please just listen to what I have to say.

In science terms: For Every Action There Is An Equal Or Opposite Reaction. God is the action, the Source for the Reactions.

We’re all souls not made by him, but from him. We come from God, we’re aspects of God’s personality, love, and there can only be one of us.

Animals don’t come from God; they can still experience pain, joy, and sadness or anger, (as proven by Coco the Gorilla and my dog before he died), but they are programmed and made to simply live. They don’t have the potential to supply water to other poor countries. They can’t write books or preach in God’s name. They can’t change the world for the better. They can play and have feelings and love to an extent, but they can’t be as incredible as us.

And I believe we’re not the only ones who deserve to go to heaven. There are other aliens out there who try to the help the universe too and impact it in God’s image- love. We’re the first, but not the last.

Also, Time doesn’t exist. Infinity is a loop with no end,

I just believe God realized his existence, and WAS.

          • Jeff says:

It’s interesting that in Genesis, God seems to be “primitive” – figuring out things as he went. For instance, he saw that Adam shouldn’t be alone. Instead of giving him a “helpmeet” (?) first, he sent a bunch of animals to see what Adam would call them. He had to travel to Babel and to Sodom and Gemorah to see what was going on, and so on. He certainly didn’t seem to be all knowing!

        • KissyFish says:

Exactly right. 🙂 God’s not an idiot. He knew a lot of people would be doubtful of him. That’s why there are people like you, Joel Osteen and Billy Graham on the planet to help us understand while God doesn’t reveal himself to us.

Besides, if he did, most people would try to act nicer toward others knowing God’s there to Judge them, whereas if they didn’t know God was there, they would act how they really are and give their own scientific opinions.

God only wants us to see us live our life in love, learn and grow. The purpose of our life down here is Evolution in the sense of gaining more knowledge and understanding, and sooner or later apply it to God, and everything he’s done for us.

To Judy, seriously any intelligent christian would try to convince atheist using science not the Bible that just either makes us laugh or mad. I laughed.

We try to disprove “Him” for the same reason you try convincing atheist to become christians. The difference is we try to take people’s blindfold off and make them think rationally as they are supposed to, you as all christians try to lure more into darkness. The sole fact that there is no proof of God and that the whole Christianity story has no logical congruence should suffice for any rational human being.

People like you shouldn’t breed. I’ve met several intelligent christians and several ignorant ones but none as ignorant as you. Earth’s age has been effectively estimated to that number of course it can be estimated to the last second. The first modern human was of about 200,000 years ago, seriously you don’t even need to pick up a book just google stuff it is really easy. Archaeology has proven Earth’s age, Humanity’s age and the existence of dinosaurs maybe you’ll say dinosaurs never existed cause they don’t mention them on the Bible.

    Misogyny=
Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says.
    -1 Corinthians 14:34

A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.
    -1 Timothy 2:11

To the woman he said, “I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” -Genesis 3:16

If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as male servants do. Exodus 21:7

28 If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives. Deuteronomy 22:28-29

He [Solomon] had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray. 1 Kings 11:3

Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, 18 but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man. Numbers 31:17-18

Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Colossians 3:18

Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
    Ephesians 5:22-24.

A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15 But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
    1 Timothy 2: 11-15

For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head. 7 A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. 8 For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; 9 neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. 1 Corinthians 11:2-10

    Hatred and Murder=
Make ready to slaughter his sons for the guilt of their fathers; Lest they rise and possess the earth, and fill the breadth of the world with tyrants.
    -Isaiah 14:21

“Then I heard the LORD say to the other men, “Follow him through the city and kill everyone whose forehead is not marked.  Show no mercy; have no pity!  Kill them all – old and young, girls and women and little children.  But do not touch anyone with the mark.  Begin your task right here at the Temple.”  So they began by killing the seventy leaders.  “Defile the Temple!” the LORD commanded.  “Fill its courtyards with the bodies of those you kill!  Go!”  So they went throughout the city and did as they were told.”
    -Ezekiel 9:5-7

God let them go ahead and do whatever shameful things their hearts desired.  As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies.  Instead of believing what they knew was the truth about God, they deliberately chose to believe lies.  So they worshiped the things God made but not the Creator himself, who is to be praised forever.  Amen.  That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires.  Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other.  And the men, instead of having normal sexual relationships with women, burned with lust for each other.  Men did shameful things with other men and, as a result, suffered within themselves the penalty they so richly deserved.  When they refused to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their evil minds and let them do things that should never be done.  Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, fighting, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip.  They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful.  They are forever inventing new ways of sinning and are disobedient to their parents.  They refuse to understand, break their promises, and are heartless and unforgiving.  They are fully aware of God’s death penalty for those who do these things, yet they go right ahead and do them anyway.  And, worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.  -Romans 1:24-32

For the LORD had said to Moses, ‘Exempt the tribe of Levi from the census; do not include them when you count the rest of the Israelites.  You must put the Levites in charge of the Tabernacle of the Covenant, along with its furnishings and equipment.  They must carry the Tabernacle and its equipment as you travel, and they must care for it and camp around it.  Whenever the Tabernacle is moved, the Levites will take it down and set it up again.  Anyone else who goes too near the Tabernacle will be executed.’
    -Numbers 1:48-51

The LORD then gave these further instructions to Moses: ‘Tell the people of Israel to keep my Sabbath day, for the Sabbath is a sign of the covenant between me and you forever.  It helps you to remember that I am the LORD, who makes you holy.  Yes, keep the Sabbath day, for it is holy.  Anyone who desecrated it must die; anyone who works on that day will be cut off from the community.  Work six days only, but the seventh day must be a day of total rest.  I repeat: Because the LORD considers it a holy day, anyone who works on the Sabbath must be put to death.’
    -Exodus 31:12-15

But if this charge is true (that she wasn’t a virgin on her wedding night), and evidence of the girls virginity is not found, they shall bring the girl to the entrance of her fathers house and there her towns man shall stone her to death, because she committed a crime against Israel by her unchasteness in her father’s house.  Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst.
    -Deuteronomy  22:20-21

If a man still prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall say to him, “You shall not live, because you have spoken a lie in the name of the Lord.”  When he prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall thrust him through.
    -Zechariah 13:3

Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods.  In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully.  If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock.  Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it.  Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God.  That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt.  Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction.  Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you.  He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors.  “The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him.”
    -Deuteronomy 13:13-19

Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be put to death.
    -Exodus 22:19

They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.  -2 Chronicles 15:12-13

If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death.
    -Leviticus 20:10

A priest’s daughter who loses her honor by committing fornication and thereby dishonors her father also, shall be burned to death.
    -Leviticus 21:9

Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death.
    -Exodus 21:15

Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death.  Such evil must be purged from Israel.
    -Deuteronomy 17:12

You should not let a sorceress live.
    -Exodus 22:17

If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives.
    -Leviticus 20:13

A man or a woman who acts as a medium or fortune teller shall be put to death by stoning; they have no one but themselves to blame for their death.
    -Leviticus 20:27

    Slavery=
However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you.  You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land.  You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance.  You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way.
    -Leviticus 25:44-46

If you buy a Hebrew slave, he is to serve for only six years.  Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom.  If he was single when he became your slave and then married afterward, only he will go free in the seventh year.  But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife will be freed with him.  If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master.  But the slave may plainly declare, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children.  I would rather not go free.’  If he does this, his master must present him before God.  Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl.  After that, the slave will belong to his master forever.
    -Exodus 21:2-6

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are.  If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again.  But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her.  And if the slave girl’s owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter.  If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife.  If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment.
    -Exodus 21:7-11

When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished.  If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property.
    -Exodus 21:20-21

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear.  Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ.
    -Ephesians 6:5

Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed.  If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful.  You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts.  Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them.
    -1 Timothy 6:1-2

The servant will be severely punished, for though he knew his duty, he refused to do it.  But people who are not aware that they are doing wrong will be punished only lightly.  Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given.
    -Luke 12:47-48

Well maybe Judy Curbow is right and I had to really read between the lines to know how to sell my daughter if raped, beat slaves, kill my enemy’s children and not let women have a voice. I have read the Bible thoroughly, alone, with my parents(conservative Christians), my grandmothers(extreme catholics), priests, pastors, professors etc. Yet why should I need the assistance of anyone to understand the Bible? I can reason you know. The Bible is a mess full of contradictions you can verify it if you don’t believe me. Sure prophesies as more reliable than science. And Atheism does not fall on circular justification, it is just based on reason. I hope you have read it all and checked with your Bible the verses I pointed out, I suppose you will find “interpretations” to them to justify your beliefs but nonetheless the verses are there and their content can’t be disguised. Open your eyes. Use your mind and please take off the blindfold.

Dear Anonymous: I don’t agree with you – and yet my responses to you have been courteous. Why have you resorted to hostility and name calling? The points I have made and the questions I have asked are also valid – and have gone largely unaddressed by you. You are constantly putting words into my mouth – I don’t know what gave you the impression that I was trying to convince you to become a Christian. I only share what I believe – it’s not my job to convert you. That’s not the topic line of this discussion at all. My friend – you need to also do some open-minded research….and by the way – dinosaurs are mentioned in the Bible. I also never said that you “needed to read between the lines” to understand the Bible. That is the work of the Holy Spirit which you don’t believe in. And don’t you find it slightly ironic that you mock me for quoting scripture– and then you turn around and do the very same thing?! According to you (and others) the Bible is simply a collection of crazy stories written by an ancient people – so no harm done, right? Again, I have to ask: If you don’t believe there is a God then why do you spend so much time and effort trying to disprove him?
For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools………………..
Regarding the age of the earth. (And does it really matter at the end of the day how old the Earth is?) I urge you to do some research on radiometric data, which is not an exact science by the way, and in particular the RATE Group findings. The dating is accurate for up to about 4,000 years and then after that the method becomes very unreliable and inaccurate – and can be manipulated. Since you give so much credence to science and the internet – why not digest what a scientist from the University of North Carolina has written on the subject: http://www.cs.unc.edu/~plaisted/ce/dating.html#Carbon. (It looks like you will have to paste this into your brower.) This paper is well written and thought out and contains many links – both secular and Christian.
Further – you made a statement that the Bible is “a mess full of contradictions.” If you name one or two – we can start going through them one-by-one. It might be an eye opener.
I enjoy exchanging ideas with all types of people. But I am done with you on this thread if you continue with your name calling and hostile tones – just trying to have a friendly debate – that’s all.
      Blessed be his name.

I do not put faith in science, faith I believe is irrational. Hope on the other hand is perfectly acceptable. Of course science is NOT perfect that is why the trial and error scheme has been it’s base because all that we have and know today are just the successful experiments among so many failed ones. Everything takes time, science gets closer every day to discovering new things that give us insight into the origins and nature of our universe. Of course I believe science for it can deliver tangible proof, as for theories they may have logical congruence yet I don’t call them as true for they haven’t been proved. Why would anyone manipulate proof? What would they gain, the entire international scientific community scrutinizes every new “discovery” as well as the public and many shams have been discovered along history since science is in the quest for answers but the true and correct answers not fabricated ones. Science is not evil it is a natural outlet of humanity to rationally understand the world. In any case religion is evil, it puts people against each other, teaches hatred against those who don’t share the same ideas, it promotes discrimination and forces people to neglect education for being intelligent in a religious background may get to question those beliefs and that is seen as a threat that is why the church relies on faith so much and on people ignoring, disregarding and disbelieving science since science can prove the flaws in religion. Religion causes violence, the most peaceful countries in the world, where there is almost no poverty or crime are NOT christian countries whereas mostly atheist. Sweden, Norway, Denmark have over 70% of their population as atheists, France is over 40% and England around 20%, Japan also has a high percentage of atheists and is a thriving economy and a world power. In contrast most deeply religious countries are third world countries in Latin America, Africa etc. Religion practically always hinders progress. Sad for you but true. Humans are part of the Hominadae family called the Great Apes, we are part of the Apes so how could we confuse ourselves with them if it is a group we are part of? What other proof would you want? What you can observe, hear, taste, feel, smell, test, measure, rate, etc. Is what exists. In those proofs is that science is based on! Yeah well science first tries to understand and then recreate. Several things have been recreated by science yet not everything is possible at least not yet. Religion doesn’t make much difference on weather either does it? Or did God answer the prayers of so many during Katrina, or during Sandy? Or during any hurricane? Earthquake? Tornado? Anything? Some did survive and they say it’s because God saved them but no one mentions the hundreds who died even after praying to God to help them survive. Did religion stop the 2004 tsunami? No it didn’t. Of course we don’t possess such knowledge but the aim is to possess as much as possible. Science will always be at work and will always strive for more and more understanding and maybe someday thousands of years from know man will have a working knowledge of the universe. Why do you believe what the Bible says? Who told you to do so? No one knows who wrote it, yet you blindly believe because the book itself says you must. I wish to understand how the universe came to be and I prefer to analyze theories(which I don’t yet believe completely) than just settle for a story on a book written thousands of years ago. Trees lack knowledge, language, interpretation yet you can know how old it was looking at it’s rings after cutting it, that is a form of data. We can and have learned things from un living objects throughout history because language is not needed for the gathering of information. In that manner we wouldn’t understand volcanoes, trees, mountains, rocks, animals, oceans, the planet etc. I am crazy? The one who doesn’t believe in a book without any proof whatsoever but in science that carries out demonstrable, empirical and mathematical experiments and demonstrates evidence that can be confirmed and tested, is the crazy one? Check your reason. You believe in a deity you have never seen, never heard, never spoken to, you have never seen “Him” at work or ever seen any evidence of “His” existence, NO ONE has ever! Because it simply isn’t there. You can see human skeletons dating thousands of years back, buildings made by ancient civilizations, those alone are proof. Tangible proof!

You crack me up, I ignorantly misread the Bible? Suuuure. Everyone says “don’t just talk the talk, you must walk the walk” but when it comes to God, “he had reasons”. Then we should release every murderer cause they too had reasons, maybe they just hated whoever they killed but that is a reason right? Well I have read the Bible and I think “Thou shalt not kill” is pretty self explanatory and it doesn’t state it has exceptions. The worst part is it wasn’t even God who killed he ordered “his people” to kill the other tribes in the “promised land”. Yup that shows so much love. By that standard we should have made a big fuzz about 9/11 cause you know THEIR God told them to kidnap and kill so many innocent people, but heck He must have had a reason. God too orders the death of innocent people, children even. Read my last comment and the verses I gathered on murder. How can God say “do not kill” on one page and then you turn to another and you find “ok here’s who you have to kill” that is a real contradiction. Murder NEVER has a justification, EVER. No deserves to be deprived of life.

How can someone believe “blindly” on what is on plain sight? And on what has been perfectly proven? I don’t believe in evolution, I KNOW it is true. It has been proved correct over and over and even though creationists don’t accept it, it is the truth! Evolution happened and is happening whether you like it or not. No one believes blindly on science that is why we ask for proof, to have a reason to believe in it and know it’s true. Faith is when you believe blindly as religious people do. Well anyways I do know I have a purpose in life. Your purpose in life is whatever you wish it to be. I hope to make a difference on this planet, make a name for myself and luckily end up on the history books. I don’t need a book telling me I have a purpose to know so, also I don’t need a book telling me what’s right from wrong, I have a brain and I use it. I can discern from what’s correct and what’s not. I actually thank the advise it shows concern but I have my eyes opened wider than ever, I hope you are able to open them and realize life is so vast and so much more than living restrained to archaic beliefs. I wish you the best.

Kissyfish people are entitled to their own opinions, but they’re not entitled to their own facts.

The FACT of evolution for example, is irrefutable after 150 years of multiple fields of study and evidence shows. There’s not a SINGLE viable alternative explanation for the diversity of life, the ONLY naysayers are from religious camps, and they’ve yet to provide a scrap of evidence to support their hypothesis… Their only weapon available is to try and poke holes in evolutionary fact and theory. (If there was a completely unique kind of DNA, that ZERO other species had, that would be an example of actual evidence worth investigating. However… The genetic trail of evidence proves beyond doubt common anscestry for all living organisms.)

Oceans containing salt water is part of Earth’s renewable process. Water evaporates from ocean…falls on land, then ions are carried from land to sea with rivers. The process continues. Without it, land would become barren. We all like to eat right? And guess what…fish and other edible creatures thrive in the salinity of the oceans providing even more food. So I’d glady exchange some runoff water for food. People can always migrate to running water…finding enough food is a different ballgame. As far as bringing God into this, you either believe in Him or you don’t. Nobody is going to change that for you one way or the other. However, if you don’t believe in Him please be humbled by at least something. One thing in life that wrecks other life is arrogance and selfishness.

This is one ridiculous article. It poses questions that does not even intend to answer. Oh, God does not exist, but lets prove it by the salt in the sea.” Atheism is a mental disease. Case in point — the millions killed by the atheist communist regimes who were to create “heaven on earth without God.” Americans are getting the virus, too. 500Q leading the way.

    • Hi, and thanks you for your attempt at criticism.

I do believe the answer to this question is obvious: no intelligent designer would give us bodies that require water, and then cover the planet with water that is useless to our bodies.

Christians often attempt to meet the burden of proof for God by appealing to design arguments, and there are many reasons to question the intelligence of this designer.

Moving on, I’m sure you realize that one cannot determine truth based solely on the behavior of those who believe in an idea. If people who believed in a flat earth were better behaved than those those who did not, would you accept that the earth was flat?

Interestingly, many studies show that atheism can actually be beneficial. For example, children of non-religious families were found to be more generous. Atheists also have lower divorce rates than Christians, and lower rates of incarceration. And not a month passes that someone who believes in God doesn’t blow up a building, or chop off someone’s head for the glory of God. But you shouldn’t stop believing in God just because atheists are better behaved, you should stop believing because Christians haven’t met the burden of proof. All it would take is one good piece of evidence, and atheism would be destroyed.

I would be happy to lead the way, but many have come before me.

Just to summarize as we have deviated from our original topic this is done by God that these difficulties are done by God so that we always remember him and not forget Him.The difficulties provided by Him are for the reasons that we remember Him and ask Him to free us from the problems and difficulties we face everyday.Otherwise no one will remember or love or ask from Him.

you’re being an idiot. don’t take a resource the Lord provides and go on a rant about just 1 attribute.
ocean water is awesome for a huge number of uses including helping you not need to work so hard while swimming in it as the salt yields awesome buoyancy. that also helps us to travel on it and a great deal of other creatures require that salt, each of which creates a balance. you don’t blog rant about why should ferrari’s exist because they can’t carry a heavy load or lots of people like a bus. instinctively you understand it was created for other reasons. do that with the ocean and a bit of humility. God’s foolishness is greater than all of our wisdom put together. When’s the last time you created ANYTHING that was awesome and only from yourself without using God’s resources? Never. Respect the Lord.

    • I created this blog, which I think is pretty awesome. 🙂

Buoyancy… that’s a good one. I’ll have to remember that if I’m ever stranded on a raft out in the middle of the Atlantic: “I may be dying of thirst, and drinking this water may drive me insane, but look how slightly more buoyant I am!”

Fact is, thousands of people die every year from not being buoyant enough. It’s too bad we can’t just float… or breathe underwater… or hold our breath for longer than 5 minutes without dying! 5 minutes! That’s like a Ferrari that explodes if the gas tank is left empty for 5 minutes. Who designs things this way?

      Take care,
